To my family for their love and support,
To my friends for their support and rapport,

To my fellow students for challenging me,
To my graceful teachers for educating me.

To the Student Life and  the SGA for the experiences,
To the Leadership Academy for the opportunities.

To all my admirers for their love,
And the less admirable for being a wing-less dove.

To the politicians for their hypocrisy,
And their false doctrines to replace democracy.

To all those who loved for the sake of it,
And those who hated without wit.

To the oppressed of the world with no hope,
And those who extend a heart and a rope.

To the angels who served tirelessly,
And those who upheld the Truth fearlessly.

To pure love and a wonderful life,
Failed successes and life's worthwhile strife.

Roses are red and violets are blue,
And God, you know, there's love between us two.

To all of you alive to breathe tonight's fresh air,
A Prosperous, Blessed and Happy New Year!

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
But you are twice as true.

Tinker Bell was bounteous,
Cinderella was beauteous,
And you are twice as gracious.

The sun is a healing sight,
And the moon a refreshing light,
But your smile shines thrice as bright.

Good captains blink,
When Titanics sink,
But my love for you will never shrink.

As seasons get warmer,
And snows make it colder,
You always will remain my only summer.

When I went into battle,
To fight for my title,
Your love was my biggest mantle. 

While great men gallantly fought,
And honors were sold and bought,
Your heart was all that I sought. 

When victory's song was sung,
And bells were graciously rung,
After men were wrong and stung,
Your smile was all that kept me strong.

Yesterday I had a dream,
And you were a lightning beam,
And I swear you so seem,
Your love overflows like a heavenly stream.

When beauties go a singing,
And bearded chaps a fishing,
All I want is to go with you a loving,
And in your ocean of love a swimming.

The Homecoming

When I shall reach dear Lengeren,
Stony eyes shall cease to be barren,
Oh lofty fence of ancestral glory,
Knowing no bounds or kinly boundary.

Those huts of honor and goodness,
Embodiments of milk of human kindness,
The dignified wise and elderly one,
Is full of joy to see a cherished man.

A perfect mirror of his sonly features,
The album of his beloved’s pictures,
Unrestrained smiles on joyful faces,
Welcome the grandson and relieve the stresses.

A moment of joy and great re-union,
A moment of peace in the heart’s dominion,
“So the pigeon’s chick knows its way,
To its ancestral nest after a long stay.

Today thou art my precious toy,
Forever to love, cherish and enjoy,”
Cool silent tears of long separation and love,
Flowed in appreciation of the blessing from above.

Dead Man’s Counsel

On his deathbed the elderly one did lay,
Awaiting the gatekeeper to open the exit of his long stay,
Up he looked but saw no day,
And summoned the chick that he did lay.

“Son, dear son, hearken to my words,
Thy most invaluable inheritance of it all,”
“All ears I am, dear father,” the lad mutters,
“Where hidest thou the treasure eluding the hunters?”

“In a treasure chest they lay hid,
Royally secured with a fleshy and bony lid,
In it lay the lost secrets of old,
And abundantly buried the purest of gold”

In the ageless scrolls are written,
Do not but once be bitten,
Once is a lesson and twice a curse,
Crush the serpent’s head before it takes its course.

Speak to thy beloved and listen to thy foes,
A foolish friend’s counsel beware,
In the rival’s words lay the essence of wisdom,
The facts of life and the keys to thy kingdom.

Thou art thy dearest friend,
Thou art thy most envious enemy,
In thy head lies the treasure of life,
And in thy bosom its poison and strife.”

And thus saying he breathed his last,
Leaving behind the treasures of future and past,
“Hearken to my words dear foolish one,
In them lay the treasures of every man.”

Silver Spring

A silver white spring flows among the trees,

A place of picnic for the busy bees,

“Give me drink” , I said

To soothe my thirst.

For generations all come and gone,
For passions all discarded or done,
Till tan off-springs are born,
Brotherhood shall be preached and inhumanity torn.

Till the stars could shine leaving no shadows,
But a glittering picture of one man, one voice,
Till poison-less are the serpents and comforting the fellows,
Till a tan kid is kissed on both cheeks and Mama’s milk rejoice.

Till my friends are color-blind and know no race,
Till my neighbor is no more upheld by the features of his face,
Till I could only see myself in every skin, every society,
And with strange street fellows share my tea.

Till then and more, every sweat of my skin, pint of my blood,
Shall be my blanks shot for humanity’s safety in the consuming flood,
Till then society is my book, my conscience my teacher,
And my fraternity with the low-casted where I feel much richer

Till the bells loudly ring,
And the minarets beautifully sing,
The Praise of the one God of East and West,
I shall slumber not, nor take my rest.

Assalaamu Alaikum, Grandfather

I heard of your passing away yesterday,
And following the route to the Last Day,
When I heard the news on my phone’s earpiece,
I was no more like myself or anything nearer.

I spent the day remembering your being,
I spent the hours bringing myself back to reality,
Because I just got news of the Inevitable,
The passing away of one of Fuuta’s Greatest sons,
The Cherno Abubakar Siddeeq of Truthfulness.

I was in a shock requiring no therapy or cure,
As I pondered over your life so clean and pure,
As I remembered your wise words and counsel,
As I reviewed clips of our lives together.

Grandfather, Grandfather, Thou left a record for humanity to learn,
Thou art the mirror of bravery,
Of Truthfulness, decency and so much examplary,
Thou art indeed a friend of the Most High,
A companion of mankind’s Greatest Son.

I now refelect upon your life,
Which started with trials and strife,
But by Allaah’s special Gift you were able to surmount,
Every obstacle on your way and horse of greatness you did mount.

I remember your courage in the face of opppresion,
I know your truthfulness even when it was so bitter,
I saw your passion for good as part of your expression,
I saw your virtues of old continuously glitter.

Grandfather, Grandfather, where are you today?
Have you seen the the Divine Light of that world?
How have you found your flight to Illiyyeen above?
How do you explain the joys of reconciliation with God and Godliness?

How did you find the odour of paradise as your soul proceeded forth from this world?
How beautiful was your home in the Cherished Garden?
How did you find being freed from the worries of this world like?
How was your welcome to the company of the Great Ones of old?

Grandfather,Grandfather meet your Lord pleased and well-pleasing unto Him,
Enjoy your company of the Chosen ones of times past,
We hope to meet you soon in the Garden of Bliss and God’s Pleasure,
To indulge the treasures of the Ultimate Garden.

Grandfather,Allaah,Glorified be His Name, says to you “O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction!
“Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him!
“Enter thou, then, among My devotees!
“Yea, enter thou My Heaven!”

Grandfather, abide in Allaah’s Divine Pleasure,
And enjoy his bountiful and eternal Treasure,
Because you have fulfilled your duty on earth with peace,
And have cared to come back to Allaah with a heart of peace.
Wassalaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Brakaatuhuu.

His flight to Heaven took place on Monday, the 10th day of Muharram, 1425 A.H
Corresponding to the 2nd day of March, 2004.
